FTPA Endorses Giombetti and LaRose for Selectman

The Framingham Taxpayers Association has formally endorsed both Dennis Giombetti and Ellen LaRose in this year’s Selectman’s race, in which two seats are to be filled. We made our endorsement after careful and critical review of information from a variety of sources. These sources included an analysis of candidates’ past voting records (for those candidates who had such records), the candidates’ public statements (both oral and printed), extensive private conversations with several of the candidates, and observation of the candidate’s participation in various public sector settings (e.g. in committee meetings). To receive our endorsement, a candidate had to receive the support of more than two-thirds of our Steering Committee, comprised of twelve people, all of whom are active in Framingham’s local government.

In considering whether or not to endorse any candidate(s), we identified several criteria that we believe are vitally important. Then we assessed how well each candidate satisfies these criteria. The criteria are as follows:

  • a demonstrated track record of support for taxpayer-friendly positions in general and FTPA positions in particular,
  • high-level management experience,
  • a considered and rational thought process in dealing with important issues, and
  • a collaborative style in working with colleagues, and others, in committee settings.

Giombetti and LaRose ranked highly in all categories, while none of the other candidates did. As a result our Steering Committee gives its full endorsement to these two candidates. We urge all voters who share our desire for cost-effective, fiscally-disciplined government to cast your two votes for Dennis Giombetti and Ellen LaRose for Selectman on April 5.
